Chris was born in Peace River, Alberta, on November 26, 1972. He was Detroit's 3rd choice in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft and 54th overall. Last season Chris was tied for first in the NHL with a 2.17 GA average. He was first in the NHL in wins with 39, and tied for third with 5 shutouts. He and Mike Vernon teamed up to win the Jennings Trophy for fewest goals against during regular season. He set a Red Wings club record for the longest unbeaten streak with 19 wins and 2 ties from January 10 through March 27. He also set a Red Wings record with a career best 13 game winning streak topping Terry Sawchuk's mark of 9. Chris scored a goal on March 6, 1995 in his 100th career game at Hartford and became only the second goaltender to be credited with a goal. Chris played in the 1996 NHL All-Star game in Boston and was selected to the second All-Star Team. In his career, Chris was the NHL Rookie of the Month in February of 1994, and posted a shutout in his NHL playoff debut. He played three years of junior hockey in the Western Hockey League with Medicine Hat, Brandon, and Seattle.
